Background and Objective: One of the significant issues in child development and upbringing is the
presence of behavioural problems. Psychological characteristics and parental interaction styles are
important factors in the pathology of these problems. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine
the mediating role of mindful parenting in the relationship between maternal emotion dysregulation and
children's behavioral problems.
Method: This study employed a descriptive correlational design. The statistical population included
mothers of all third- to sixth-grade elementary school children in Yazd during the 2023-2024 academic
year. A total of 200 mothers were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the
Conners Parent Rating Scale, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) by Gratz and Roemer, and
Interpersonal Mindfulness in Parenting scale by McCaffrey et al. The collected data were analyzed using
structural equation modeling.
Findings: The results of this study indicated that maternal emotion dysregulation is associated with mindful
parenting and children's behavioral problems. Additionally, there is a relationship between mindful parenting
and children's behavioral problems. Finally, mindful parenting plays a mediating role in the relationship
between children's behavioural problems and maternal emotion dysregulation.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, it is essential to provide mothers with training in emotion regulation and
parenting strategies to reduce children's behavioural problems.
