Background and Aim: Mothers of children with intellectual disability face special challenges in parenting
self-efficacy and cognitive emotion regulation, and these factors seem to be related to their quality of life.
The aim of present study was to prediction of quality of life based on parenting self-efficacy and cognitive
emotion regulation in mothers of students with intellectual disability.
Method: This research was correlational. The statistical population of the present study included all
mothers of students with intellectual disability in Isfahan city. The research sample included 65 mothers who
were selected by simple random sampling method. Research tools included quality of life questionnaire,
parenting self-efficacy scale and cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire. The obtained data were
analyzed using the statistical method of step-by-step regression analysis.
Results: Parenting self-efficacy and adaptive strategies of cognitive emotion regulation had a positive and
significant relationship with quality of life, while non-adaptive strategies of cognitive emotion regulation
had a negative and significant relationship with quality of life. Parenting self-efficacy and adaptive and
non-adaptive strategies predicted 42% of the variance of quality of life, and parenting self-efficacy had
the greatest role in predicting quality of life.
Conclusion: Paying attention to the variables of parenting self-efficacy and cognitive emotion regulation
in predicting the quality of life of mothers of students with intellectual disability is of particular importance.
Therefore, paying attention to these variables plays a vital role in predicting the quality of life.
