Abstract
Background and Purpose: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the mediating
role of religious beliefs in the relationship between the length of marriage and social support with self-coherence
in mothers of children with physical and motor disabilities.
Method: The present research method was descriptive and correlation type. The statistical population of this
research included all mothers of children with physical and motor disabilities in July 2022, and 200 mothers
with disabled children were selected as the sample of the research using available sampling method. The
data collection tool is the short form of the Antonovsky Coherence Questionnaire (1993), the perceived
social support scale of Zimet, Dahlem, Zimet & Farley (1988), the scale of religious beliefs of Khodiari Fard,
Faqihi, Ghbari Bonab, Shkohi Yekta and Beh Pajoh (2018) and Demographic information was duration of
marriage.
Results: The results of the Pearson correlation test showed that the components of social support have a
significant relationship with self-coherence (p-value <0.05); However, the relationship between the length
of marriage and the cohesion of the mothers of disabled children was not significant (p-value<0.05); The
results of the structural equation test showed that religious beliefs play a mediating role in the relationship
between social support and self-coherence (p-value <0.01); However, religious beliefs do not play a
mediating role in the relationship between the duration of marriage and its cohesion (p-value<0.05).
Conclusion: Using the results of the present study, it can be concluded that the use of therapeutic
approaches such as spiritual therapy has strengthened and improved the religious beliefs of mothers, and
ultimately their own coherence is also improved.
