Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hope training on academic engagement of mentally retarded female students of Khoramaabad at grade two in secondary school.

Method: It is an experimental design with pre-test, post-test and control group. The population of the present study includes all exceptional girl students of Khoramaabad at grade two in secondary school in 2014-2015. 30 students were selected as samples of the present study and randomly assigned in two groups of experimental (n=15) and control group (n=15). The participants of experimental group were instructed about hope for nine sessions, yet the participants of control group received no intervention. Eventually, both groups took the post-test. The instrumentations were academic engagement questionnaire developed by Zerang (1391). Data were analyzed through SPSS software and Descriptive Statistics (mean and standard deviation).

Results: The results revealed that hope training can have positive impact on academic engagement and some of its elements such as cognitive engagement, motivational engagement, and behavioral engagement of mental retardation girl students.

Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that hope education has promoted academic engagement and its cognitive, motivational, and behavioral elements with mental retardation girl students and in turn, it has resulted in students’ academic better performance.

Abstract

The purpose of this current research is to conduct a comparative analysis of hope and optimism between Normal intermediate female students and those suffering from hearing impairment in the city of Esfehan .The method of this research was a causal-comparative one. Base on this, 60 female students at the intermediate level(30 normal students and 30 hearing impaired ones) were randomly selected and They filled out the (1985) Carver and Share questionnaire having 8 items and the (1991) Schnider's adult self – reported hope standard. To analyze the data, in addition to using the statistical descriptive index, Pearson's coefficiency and the A test of the two independent groups were also utilized. Findings: The difference in mean between the two groups in the hope scale was equal to 7.40 which indicated the normal students had a score higher than those having hearing impairment. In addition to this difference, the mean between the two groups, as for as the optimism variance is concerned, was equal to 2 indicating the normal students had a higher score in optimism compared to the hearing- impaired students. On the other hand, the results of the to test indicated that the difference between the two groups in regards to hope and optimism variances was, statistically, significant. Based on the results, the hearing- impaired students compared to the normal students were more vulnerable as far as hope and optimism are concerned. As a result, this problem should be treated by psychotherapy and counseling. Since there is this belief that positive psychology factors such as hope can protect people against stressful situations, it seems that conducting preventive programs for hearing impaired students can be useful. Additionally, the findings of different studies indicate that optimism has a desirable effect on individuals' health and adaptive behavior which can help them during the stressful situations and it should be elevated among the hearing-impaired individuals.

Abstract

Abstract
Background and purpose: the purpose of the present study is to examine the mediating role of the sense
of agency in explaining the effect of attitude towards time and hope for employment on the quality of life of
blind and visually impaired students.
Research method: A descriptive correlational research method was carried out. Also, in terms of the
purpose, this study was practical. The statistical population of the current research The statistical population
of the current research includes all blind and partially sighted people between the ages of 12 and 35 years
who were members of the Blind Association of Khuzestan province in 1401, who had university education
(associate to doctorate), the number of the sample of the current research is 233 people and the sampling
method Purposeful form was used. The research tools included the Quality of Life Questionnaire of the
Blind and Visually Impaired (Forest et al., 2000), Time Attitude Questionnaire (Mello & Worrell, 2010),
Employment Expectation Questionnaire (Qureshi Rad, 2008) and the Sense of Agency Questionnaire
of Visually Impaired People (Farahani et al., 2017). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and
structural equation modeling (SEM).
Findings: The coefficient of the indirect path between hope for employment and quality of life (β=0.182,
P=0.001) is positive and the coefficient of the indirect path between negative attitude to time and quality
of life (P=0.001, β= -0.159) is negative and significant. In contrast, the indirect path coefficient between
positive attitude to time and quality of life was not significant.
Conclusion: The results showed that sense of agency negatively mediates the effect of negative attitude
towards time on the quality of life of blind and visually impaired students, and the effect of hope for employment
on their quality of life is positively and meaningfully mediated.
