Autism is not a new issue, although in recent years, due to different reasons, its prevalence seemed to be very low, but now experts do not consider it a rare condition. Autism is a neurological condition that occurs in the brain and is the most common type of disorder characterized by autism spectrum disorders. This disorder is recognizable before age 3 and is found in all countries, ethnic groups, cultures, social and economic classes. This paper, by reviewing the available sources, examines the historical course of the disorder from the beginning to the present. In this article, the basic terminology, outdated theories, the eminent scholarly characters in the field of autism, the current situation and the prospect of the future of autism are briefly outlined.
